During the April 8, 2010 Animal Control and Welfare Commission (AWC) meeting, Rebecca Katz, Interim Director of San Francisco’s Animal Care and Control (ACC), stated, “I have consistently offered to have critics see what we do, speak with people involved with our daily routines, and to suggest alternatives….To date, the only people who have availed themselves of the offer have been some of the commissioners sitting here…”

At the most recent meeting of the SF Commission on Animal Welfare, a motion was made to table (Pam Hemphill) or even to cease (Philip Gerrie) discussion of no kill legislation. The motion was made despite the fact that there were two new legislative proposals put before the commission that night. Is the issue lack of money? Need for legislation? Free Feral Cat Spay Day: April 27, 2010

Alley Cat Rescue has asked veterinarians across the U.S. to participate in providing free Spay and Neuter procedures for feral cats on April 27. What a great idea! Will your vet participate? 

Flying Chihuahuas! (Jan '10)

 California has been inundated with Chihuahuas! The solution? Airlift them to New York where there is a demand for small dogs. San Francisco's Animal Care and Control with Virgin America Airlines organized a transfer of several Chihuahuas to New York's ASPCA to solve both coast's problem.
